Geology of rock building materials of the antique city of Rome

The geology of rock building materials of famous archaeologic sites and touristic places, e.g. the Forum Romanum, the Colosseum, the Trajanian markets are the topic of this talk. The stately buildings of the antique Rome have been build of different building rocks. The marble originates from the famous quarries of Carrara, but further building material from several local sources. As early as in the antiquity travertin and volcanic rock has been quarried just out of the city limits of Rome.
